Pune Rains: NCP SP Blames Pune Municipal Corporation And Irrigation Department For Flood Situation
Pune, July 25, 2024: Due to last night’s heavy rainfall, the entire area from Sinhagad Road to Pulachi Wadi has been submerged. Many societies’ parking lots and residents’ vehicles have gone underwater, with water entering homes on the first floors of buildings. Thousands of citizens have faced significant losses as water has inundated their shops, causing damage worth crores of rupees. The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has blamed the Pune Municipal Corporation, Irrigation Department, Pune District Collector, and the Bharatiya Janata Party for the devastation in Pune city.
The NCP alleges that the reduction of the river channel’s width under the River Improvement Project has obstructed the natural flow of the river, causing water overflow in the central parts of Pune city. The responsibility for this calamity lies with Devendra Fadnavis, who claims to be the architect of Pune city, and his silent supporter, Murlidhar Mohol, according to the NCP led by Sharadchandra Pawar.
During the night of heavy rainfall and significant discharge from the dam, NCP City President Prashant Jagtap questioned the actions of Pune District Collector Suhas Divse and Municipal Commissioner Rajendra Bhosale. He criticized the Municipal Corporation for failing to alert citizens with sirens or announcements despite rising water levels. He demanded the immediate transfer of the Municipal Commissioner by the state government. Jagtap called on Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, and Deputy Chief Minister Ajitdada Pawar to explain to Pune citizens who is responsible for the situation.
The NCP, under the leadership of City President Prashant Jagtap, submitted a memorandum to the District Collector, demanding immediate assessment and compensation for the affected citizens. They also requested a report on pre-monsoon work completed by the Municipal Corporation, questioning why flood conditions arose despite claims of completed work. Jagtap urged the District Collector to issue orders to the concerned departments to prevent such situations in the future and ensure adequate compensation for the affected citizens.
Present during the memorandum submission were NCP Pune City President Prashant Jagtap, Kishore Kamble, Shekhar Dhawade, Ganesh Nalawade, Swati Chitnis, Appa Jadhav, Kiran Gadekar, and others.
