Pune: Ravi Landge Elected Unopposed As Mayor, Sharmila Babar As Deputy Mayor Of PCMC
Pimpri, February 6, 2026: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) on Friday elected Ravi Laxman Landge as Mayor and Sharmila Raju Babar as Deputy Mayor unopposed, following a special general body meeting held at the Yashwantrao Chavan Auditorium in the main administrative building at Pimpri.
The special meeting was chaired by Presiding Officer and Cooperative Commissioner Deepak Tavare. For the post of Mayor, BJP leader Ravi Landge was the sole candidate, leading to his unopposed election. For the post of Deputy Mayor, two nominations were filed — Vaishali Jalandhar Kalbhor (NCP) and Sharmila Raju Babar (BJP). However, after Vaishali Kalbhor withdrew her nomination within the stipulated time, Sharmila Babar was elected unopposed as Deputy Mayor.
In addition to the mayoral elections, Prashant Shitole was appointed as Leader of the House, while Bhausaheb Bhoir was appointed as Leader of the Opposition.
The special general body meeting was held under the chairmanship of Deepak Taware and in the presence of PCMC Commissioner Shravan Hardikar. Municipal Secretary Mukesh Kolpe briefed the house on the proceedings before the election process was conducted.
Assumption of Office and Felicitation
Following their election, Mayor Ravi Landge and Deputy Mayor Sharmila Babar formally assumed office. They were felicitated by MLAs Uma Khapre, Amit Gorkhe, Mahesh Landge, and Shankar Jagtap on behalf of the citizens. On behalf of the municipal administration, Presiding Officer Deepak Tavare and Commissioner Shravan Hardikar also honoured the newly elected leaders.
Several newly elected corporators, senior civic officials including Additional Commissioners Vijaykumar Khorate, Tripti Sandbhor and Vikrant Bagade, Municipal Secretary Mukesh Kolpe, Assistant Commissioner Manoj Lonkar, Deputy Commissioner Anna Bodade, Chief Security Officer Uday Jarande, Special Officer Kiran Gaikwad, other departmental officers, and a large number of citizens were present on the occasion.
Tribute and Adjournment of General Body
During the general body meeting, tributes were paid to late Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar. Leader of the Opposition Bhausaheb Bhoir and Leader of the House Prashant Shitole paid homage through condolence messages.
Subsequently, corporator Shatrughan Kate proposed the adjournment of the general body meeting until February 20, 2026. The proposal was seconded by corporator Raju Misal, after which Mayor Ravi Landge announced the adjournment of the general body meeting till 1 pm on February 20, 2026.
Floral Tribute to Annasaheb Magar
Later, Mayor Ravi Landge and Deputy Mayor Sharmila Babar paid floral tributes to the full-length statue of late Annasaheb Magar at the PCMC main administrative building in Pimpri. They also offered garlands to statues of eminent personalities located at various places across the city as a mark of respect.
