Pune Records Dryest Start To June In Years; IMD Predicts Gradual Monsoon Advance
Pune, 18 June, 2026: Pune has recorded no rainfall during the first 15 days of June, making it one of the driest starts to the monsoon season in recent years. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a similar situation was last seen in 2014.
Weather officials said the slow progress of the southwest monsoon over the Konkan region has affected rainfall activity in Pune and nearby areas. As a result, the city has not received the usual pre-monsoon showers this year.
The IMD has forecast that temperatures in Pune will remain above normal for the next two days. Skies are likely to remain mostly clear during the day and become partly cloudy by evening. No significant rainfall has been predicted for the city over the next four days.

However, some parts of western Maharashtra may receive relief from the heat. The IMD has forecast moderate rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds in districts including Pune, Satara and Sangli. Light rainfall is also likely in isolated areas of Nashik, Nagpur and the Marathwada region over the coming days.
Meanwhile, the IMD has issued a yellow alert for thunderstorms and light rainfall at isolated places across Maharashtra. The weather department has stated that conditions are becoming favourable for the further advance of the southwest monsoon over the state during the next four to five days.
In Mumbai, rainfall activity remained absent on Monday despite a forecast for light showers. The city witnessed cloudy skies throughout the day, but weather experts said a lack of moisture in the atmosphere prevented rainfall from occurring.
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) is expected to continue experiencing hot and humid conditions for the next two days. The IMD has predicted the possibility of light rain and thunderstorms during the evening hours.
Mumbai recorded above-normal temperatures on Monday. Santacruz recorded a maximum temperature of 35.2 degrees Celsius, while Colaba recorded 35 degrees Celsius. Both readings were more than three degrees above normal. Minimum temperatures also remained above average, with Santacruz recording 29.5 degrees Celsius and Colaba 29.6 degrees Celsius.
Humidity levels remained between 60 and 70 per cent, resulting in uncomfortable weather conditions across the city.
The Regional Meteorological Centre has forecast light rain or thundershowers in isolated parts of Mumbai. Similar weather conditions are expected in Thane and Palghar districts on June 17. However, satellite images currently do not show any major rain-bearing cloud formations over the region.
With temperatures remaining above normal in many parts of Maharashtra, residents are hoping for widespread rainfall as the southwest monsoon advances further into the state.
