The road work from Chhatrapati Shivaji Chowk to Renuka Mandir, Buddha Vihar PMPML Bus stop area in Keshavnagar area has been of poor quality. Hence, a protest was held on behalf of the Republican Party of India in Keshavnagar by sleeping on the road in scorching heat.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Gajendra More, Youth District President, Republican Party of India (RPI) Pune, said “The condition of the road in Keshavnagar areas like Buddha Vihar etc has become worst. Potholes are there on the road since several days. Concreting is not done appropriately. The work is not done as per estimation.

When we asked the concerned engineer, firstly, he said that their work is now done. Now, they are saying that another layer of tar is to be added. Such scams are happening there as the PMC has completely ignored this issue. Even the head of the PMC road department hasn’t given any satisfactory or plausible answers regarding this. Now, what shall the citizens do? Whom shall they approach?”

Gajendra More further said “The protest was done opposite to Buddha Vihar in Keshavnagar. This protest was very temporary. If the road issue isn’t resolved at the earliest, in future, when the model code of conduct is over, a huge Gherao protest will be done. Also, a Taale Thoko protest will be done.”

As per further information from the letter to PMC from Republican Party of India,

The road from PMPML Keshavnagar bus stop to Renukamata Mandir, in front of Kumbharwada, was tendered for asphalting & the road was constructed. But while this work was being done, it can be seen that the concerned contractor has done very poor quality work. It looks like the work has been done in a hurry by working temporarily and putting a thin layer of asphalt.

It is doubtful whether the concerned engineers of the road department are paying attention to the work or not because potholes are seen at some places.

The contractor does not seem to have worked as per the estimation tender process and it is very likely that the work was done in collusion between the concerned contractor and the engineer. So, it is very necessary to conduct a thorough investigation as it is the question of public money, collected in form of property taxes, which is spent for the work.
