‘Eriocaulon Anshiense’, a newly described species finds its special mention on the cover poster of India Post.

‘Eriocaulon Anshiense’, a new species found and described by Sachin Punekar, P. Lakshminarasimhan and Nilesh Vijay Malpure, has come in the light after the species has been mentioned on the special postal cover initiated by India Post to commemorate 66th Wildlife Week 2020.

This has come as a huge success to the efforts of Sachin Punekar, P. Lakshminarasimhan and Nilesh Vijay Malpure, while finding their way out to describe the species that grows in deciduous forest. The species has been named after the Anshi National Park in northern part of Karnataka. The species is endemic to western ghats.

Sachin Punekar, who has been working on Anshi National Park for the past 20 years as a researcher, described the species in 2004 along with his team, said, “I thank the Karnataka Forest Department and Maria Christu Raja D, Deputy Conservator of Forests and Director Kali Tiger Reserve (KTR), Dandeli, who also played a pivotal role to get this species on the special postal cover.”
