Pune, January 5, 2026: Residents of Ekbote Colony in Ghorpade Peth have raised serious concerns over the growing presence of illegal scrap vehicles and unauthorized roadside stalls, alleging that unchecked activities are severely affecting daily life in the area. Locals say the problem has persisted for months and is now reaching alarming levels.

According to residents, several scrap vehicles have been parked permanently on public roads, while illegal stalls have mushroomed without any permissions. These encroachments have significantly reduced road width, making it difficult for pedestrians and vehicles to pass, especially during peak hours.

One of the major issues highlighted is traffic congestion. Narrowed roads frequently lead to traffic bottlenecks, delaying emergency vehicles and increasing the risk of accidents. Residents claim that school-going children and senior citizens are the most affected, as they struggle to navigate through congested and unsafe streets.

Apart from traffic concerns, locals have also pointed out health and hygiene hazards. Accumulated scrap material attracts rodents and stray animals, while waste generated by unauthorized stalls is often dumped indiscriminately. This has led to foul smells and unhygienic conditions, raising fears of disease outbreaks.

Safety remains another critical concern. Residents allege that the presence of scrap yards and illegal stalls has increased the risk of fire accidents and criminal activities. Poor visibility and crowding have further added to the sense of insecurity, particularly after dark.

Despite repeated verbal complaints and representations made by local residents, no concrete action has reportedly been taken by Pune Municipal Corporation officials or the local police. Citizens have now urged the authorities to conduct an immediate inspection, remove illegal encroachments and ensure strict enforcement of civic norms to restore safety, cleanliness and order in Ekbote Colony.
