Pune Resident’s Viral Post on Incomplete Number Plate Sparks Outrage, Netizens Slam Police Response
Pune: A viral post on social media has ignited public anger after Pune resident Nikhil Deshpande raised concerns over a motorcycle sporting an incomplete number plate. The Royal Enfield, spotted on Fountain Road, Kharadi, had “MH12 100” on the rear plate, while the front plate displayed only “शंभूराजे.”
MH12 100 – That's the no. on this vehicle's rear plate. The front plate only says "शंभूराजे"

Deshpande took to X (formerly Twitter) to question how Pune Police would trace the vehicle if it were involved in crimes such as chain-snatching or hit-and-run accidents. However, the police’s response—stating that no action could be taken without the full registration number—only fueled more criticism.

Public Calls Out Police Inaction
Nachiket Deshpande, another social media user, pointed out the flaw in the police’s reply, stating:
“That’s the whole complaint, Sir. The full number isn’t on the plate, yet such vehicles freely roam the roads. Can’t you track how many Royal Enfield Classic motorcycles with MH12 and number 100 exist?”
His sentiment was echoed by several users, who highlighted the widespread issue of improper number plates in Pune.
- One user remarked, “Half of the locals have numbers written like this. It’s not like they don’t know the rules.”
- Another questioned the police’s capabilities, adding, “The police have access to RTO records. It’s such an easy task to find the owner.”
Lax Enforcement Raises Safety Concerns
The incident has intensified public frustration over the lack of enforcement of vehicle registration rules. Citizens are urging Pune Police to crack down on illegal number plates, which pose serious challenges in road safety and crime investigations.
With growing concerns over untraceable vehicles, will Pune Police take stricter action to ensure compliance with registration laws? The public is waiting for answers.
