Pune, November 12, 2025: A wave of concern has swept through the residential neighborhoods of Wakad, Rahatani, Pimple Nilakh and surrounding areas, with multiple societies reporting attempted thefts and burglaries over the past several days. The latest incident occurred at Vardhman Dream Society in Kaspate Wasti, Wakad, where an armed theft attempt was reported last night, further escalating fears among locals.

This incident is part of a disturbing pattern affecting areas like Pimple Nilakh, Vishal Nagar, and Rahatani. Residents describe living in a state of constant anxiety, fearing for the safety of their homes and families.

A Chilling New Modus Operandi

What is alarming residents and security personnel alike is the method being employed by the criminals. According to multiple accounts and CCTV footage, the perpetrators are using a specialized spray to disable security cameras temporarily. This tactic, which blinds the cameras for roughly half an hour, provides them with a clear window to execute their plans without being recorded.

The criminals are reported to be brazen, conducting daytime reconnaissance of potential targets before striking at night. They move calmly within society premises, showing no apparent fear, and use techniques to break into properties with minimal noise.

Residents Voice Frustration and Fear

The repeated incidents have left the community on edge. “If we go out for work, we are worried that someone might break into our house. What are we supposed to do?” asked a senior citizen from the Rakshak Nagar area, echoing a sentiment felt by many.

A major point of contention raised by residents from Pimple Nilakh and Vishal Nagar is the lack of a permanent police presence in the area. They have reiterated a long-standing demand for a police chowki (outpost), stating that the existing police stations are too far away, leading to delayed response times during emergencies.

When asked about the specific incident at Vardhman Dream Society, Police Inspector Shatrughn Mali from the Wakad Police Station stated, “As of now, we have not received any formal complaint regarding this incident. However, in case of any such event, we strongly urge residents to immediately call the emergency number 112 to ensure swift police action.”

Calls for Enhanced Security Measures

In light of the recent crimes, housing societies are urgently reviewing their security protocols. Residents are demanding increased vigilance from private security guards and advocating for neighbors to form closer-knit communities to watch over each other’s properties.

The collective call from the residents is clear: they seek immediate and concrete action from the authorities, including heightened police patrolling and the swift establishment of a promised police chowki, to restore a sense of safety and security in their neighborhoods.
