Pune: The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has instructed the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) not to cut trees for the River Front Development (RFD) project until the State Environmental Impact Assessment Authority (SEIAA) gives its nod.

As per information, on May 31, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) issued a directive to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), instructing them to halt the cutting down of trees for the Mula-Mutha RiverFront Development (RFD) project on July 31.

The NGT expressed strong displeasure with the PMC, questioning their actions in light of the Detailed Project Report (DPR) and the Environmental Clearance, both of which explicitly stated that no trees should be cut for the RFD project.

On July 31, legal advisor Rahul Garg, recorded the reply affidavit for the PMC saying no trees would be felled without getting fundamental authorization of the tree authority of the province of Maharashtra.

PMC had applied for a change in the natural freedom for the venture, which was getting looked at before the State Experts Assessment Committee (SEAC-III) of the SEIAA and soon a choice would be taken. Garg guaranteed in the open court that till the equivalent was thought of, which remembered considerations for the issue of further felling of trees, none would be felled by PMC.

The bench then, at that point, proceeded to discard the application with the order of no tree felling for the task till the alteration supplication is chosen by the State Environmental Impact Assessment Authority (SEIAA).
