Pune, November 1, 2025: Ahead of the upcoming Pune Grand Challenge Tour — an international cycling event set to take place next year — the district administration has started major road development work across the city and district. The project covers a total of 437 kilometres and must be completed by December 15.

Officials have warned that any delay in the work will lead to a penalty of ₹1 lakh per day for the responsible contractors.

The Pune Grand Challenge Tour will feature four stages and pass through several parts of the Pune district. The event has received recognition from the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), the global cycling authority, and will see participation from 24 teams representing 16 countries — a significant achievement for Pune’s sports and infrastructure sectors.

District Collector Jitendra Dudi said the administration is keeping a close watch on the work’s progress. “All projects must be finished before December 15. Contractors missing the deadline will face a daily fine of ₹1 lakh,” he stated, adding that the goal is to provide world-class roads for the international competition.

Officials also said the initiative will not only improve Pune’s road network but also help establish the city as a leading destination for international sports and tourism. Contractors have been directed to ensure high-quality construction and safety standards while completing the work on time.
