Pune, March 7, 2026: Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar faction) MLA Rohit Pawar on Friday accused the Maharashtra Crime Investigation Department (CID) of extending preferential treatment to businessman VK Singh, whose company operated the aircraft involved in the January 28 crash that claimed the life of former deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar.

Pawar visited the CID headquarters in Pashan on Friday, where he met senior officials and submitted additional documents related to the investigation. He said the evidence was meant to support demands for immediate registration of a First Information Report (FIR) in the case.

According to Pawar, during his earlier visit to the CID office, officials had informed him that an FIR would be registered only after the report of the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) was released. The report was submitted about five days ago, he said, yet no case has been filed so far.

The MLA further alleged that Singh received “VIP-level hospitality” during his appearance at the CID office on Thursday for questioning. Pawar claimed that Singh’s personal security guard was allowed to enter the premises with an AK-47 rifle, a privilege he described as highly unusual.

“We have once again been assured that a case will be filed, but there is still no action. This raises concerns about whether Singh is being protected because he could name influential individuals,” Pawar said, adding that he would continue pressing for accountability.

Singh reportedly appeared before CID officials on Thursday and was questioned for nearly seven hours, from around 12:30 pm to 7:30 pm, in connection with the crash.

Pawar also questioned the delay in handing over the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), despite reports that the state government had recommended a federal probe.

He compared the situation with the investigation into the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, noting that the CBI took over that case within two days after the Bihar government recommended a probe.

“In this case, more than three weeks have passed and the CBI has still not taken charge of the investigation,” Pawar said.

He also claimed that party workers had recorded video footage of Singh entering the CID office but were unable to confirm how he exited the premises. Pawar alleged that Singh may have been escorted out in a police vehicle with tinted windows.
