Pune RTO Cracks Down on School Transport Violations: 200 Vehicles Penalised
Pune: In a significant enforcement drive, the Pune Regional Transport Office (RTO) has penalised 200 school transport vehicles for violating state transport department norms. This initiative aims to ensure the safety and compliance of school buses, vans, and autos transporting students across the city.
Special Drive Details:
Inspection Overview: Over the past six months, special squads from the RTO have checked more than 500 school transport vehicles.
Violations Detected: Of the 224 school vans inspected between January 1 and June 30, 2024, 100 were found violating norms. Similarly, out of 318 school buses checked, 100 were non-compliant with the rules.
RTO’s Statement:
Archana Gaikwad, Pune Regional Transport Officer, emphasized the importance of this drive:
“As schools have resumed since June, there is an influx of school transport vehicles across the city during peak hours. However, many of these vehicles fail to adhere to the safety and regulatory standards set by the state transport department. Our ongoing drive aims to address these issues. We also urge parents to stay vigilant about the vehicles transporting their children.”
Inspection Criteria:
RTO inspectors are meticulously checking:
- Window bars
- Footsteps
- Seating arrangements
- First-aid boxes
- Vehicle documents
- Fitness certificates
- Agreements between schools and transport operators
The Pune RTO’s proactive approach underscores their commitment to student safety and regulatory compliance in school transportation. Parents are encouraged to be aware and ensure that their children’s transport vehicles meet all safety standards.
