Kangana Ranaut’s Aadhaar Card Request Sparks Political Row in Mandi
Bollywood actress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP from Mandi, Kangana Ranaut, has ignited controversy. She asked her constituents to bring their Aadhaar cards if they wished to meet her. On Thursday, while launching her Jan Samvad Kendra, Ranaut stated that this measure was necessary to differentiate local residents from tourists in Himachal Pradesh and to reduce inconvenience for the local people. She also requested that people write down the purpose of their visit beforehand.
Ranaut clarified that as a Lok Sabha MP, her responsibilities include addressing national-level issues, not just local assembly or panchayat matters. She urged her constituents to bring matters to her that align with her role so she can address broader issues effectively.
The remarks drew criticism from Congress leader Vikramaditya Singh, who ran against Ranaut for the Mandi seat. Singh emphasized that representatives are there to serve all people of the state, regardless of the nature of their issues or their identification. He stated, “They don’t need to bring their Aadhaar card” to meet him and discuss their problems.

This incident follows another controversy involving Ranaut, where she was reportedly slapped by CISF personnel at Chandigarh airport last month due to her comments about women protesting in solidarity with farmers in 2020.
In addition to her political duties, Ranaut is set to return to her acting career with her upcoming film “Emergency,” a biopic on Indira Gandhi.
