Pune, June 5, 2026: Auto-rickshaw drivers in Pune who are not proficient in Marathi will now be required to attend special Marathi language training sessions conducted by the Regional Transport Office (RTO), following directives issued by the Maharashtra government.

The Pune RTO has launched a dedicated initiative to help auto-rickshaw drivers learn basic Marathi for effective communication with passengers and for day-to-day operations. Under the programme, three-hour Marathi language lectures are being conducted for drivers at the Pune RTO office near Sangam Bridge and the Alandi Road RTO office.

According to RTO officials, attendance is mandatory for non-Marathi-speaking auto-rickshaw drivers. Authorities have warned that drivers who fail to acquire basic Marathi language skills may face administrative action, including cancellation of their badge or suspension of permit renewal procedures.

The classes are being held daily from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm at both RTO offices. Special officers have been assigned to ensure proper instruction and effective implementation of the programme.

Motor Vehicle Inspector Avinash Dalvi has been assigned to conduct classes at the Sangam Bridge RTO office, while Motor Vehicle Inspector Amruta Bhalshankar is overseeing the programme at the Alandi Road RTO office.

The RTO has appealed to all eligible auto-rickshaw drivers to take advantage of the training and ensure compliance with the state government’s language requirements.
