Pune Rural Police Release Sketch of Main Accused in Daund Sexual Assault and Robbery Case
Pune Rural Police have released a sketch of the prime suspect in a case involving the sexual assault of a 19-year-old woman and the robbery of gold jewelry from three women near Daund on the Pune–Solapur highway.
The incident occurred around 4:15 a.m. on June 30, when seven devotees traveling to Pandharpur had stopped for a tea break. According to police, two men on a motorcycle approached the group, brandished a sickle, and threw chili powder into the victims’ eyes, temporarily blinding them. The suspects then dragged the young woman a short distance away and sexually assaulted her after snatching gold necklaces and ornaments from the other women.
Sections 64, 309(6), 351(2), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), in addition to the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and pertinent parts of the Arms Act, have been used to register the complaint at the Daund Police Station. In order to track the suspects’ activities all the way to Indapur, Pune Rural Police have sent out several squads and are examining more than fifty CCTV film clips along the Pune-Solapur highway. To hide identify, the motorcycle’s license plate was painted white.
