Pune, December 18, 2025: In a novel initiative to foster community awareness and practical learning among its youngest residents, Sanskriti Society organised the second chapter of its “Know Your Society” series on December 14, 2025. The event, conceptualised and led entirely by knowledgeable society members, aims to demystify the complex infrastructure that powers daily life for the community’s children and youth.

Moving beyond textbooks, the initiative provides on-ground, interactive walkthroughs of the society’s essential services. The first session focused on water supply systems. Yesterday’s Session 2 turned the spotlight on a more electrifying topic: “The Complete Electrical & Solar Power System of Our Society.”

From Transformer to Solar Panel: A Live Learning Journey
The session, designed to be highly interactive, began at 4:00 PM near the clubhouse. A group of curious children, accompanied by some parents, gathered for a unique “infrastructure field trip.”

The walkthrough was led by resident experts who explained the journey of electricity in a simple, engaging manner. Starting at the MSEB feeder point, the group traced the path of power: from high-tension cables bringing in electricity at 11KV/22KV, through the giant transformers that step down the voltage to safe, usable levels for homes, and finally to the individual meter rooms.

Concepts like power frequency (50Hz in India), sources of electricity (thermal, hydro, wind, nuclear), and the role of backup generators were broken down into digestible information for the young audience.

Solar Energy: A Lesson in Sustainable Futures
The highlight for many was the visit to the society’s rooftop solar power plant, explained in detail by resident Sachin Gunale. Children saw firsthand how solar panels capture sunlight, learned about solar water heaters, and understood how the society generates its own clean energy.

The discussion went beyond mechanics, touching on why solar power matters. Experts connected the dots between renewable energy, financial savings for the society, and the critical need to protect the environment for their own future. The session made the abstract idea of “sustainability” a visible, working reality right above their homes.

Building Conscious, Informed Future Residents
The “Know Your Society” series is driven by a vision to cultivate a sense of ownership and responsibility in the next generation. By understanding where their water and electricity come from, children are not only gaining scientific knowledge but also learning the value of resources, the importance of maintenance, and the role of community cooperation in managing shared assets.

“The goal is to make our children aware and responsible citizens of this small community first,” said one of the organising members. “When they see how things work, they appreciate them more and grow up with the mindset to contribute. The curiosity and intelligent questions from the kids yesterday were incredibly rewarding.”

The society’s management committee has applauded this member-driven educational effort and plans to continue the series with sessions on waste management, security systems, and gardening, ensuring Sanskriti’s children grow up knowing the ins and outs of their home.
