A leopard escaped from the Rajiv Gandhi Zoo in Katraj yesterday (4th March) morning. The leopard was kept in a cage in an isolation room. The staff informed that he ran away from there. He remains in the zoo premises and has not yet been captured.

A variety of animals can be found in the zoo at Katraj. A few days ago, animals such as Chaushingas, Taras and leopards were added to it. There are four leopards in this zoo, three of them are females. The escaped leopard was brought from the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Zoo in Hampi, Karnataka.

He was kept in isolation at an animal orphanage for a few days. However, around 9:30 AM on Monday morning, the staff noticed that there was no leopard in the cage.

The Zoological Park is home to 3 female and 1 male leopard, with the latter brought from Hampi, Karnataka, as part of an animal exchange program. The male leopard was initially kept in isolation within the animal orphanage.

The zoo, which houses several animals, has been closed to visitors. Concerns about public safety in the densely populated area have been amplified by the escape.

CCTVs are being tracked to check the leopard’s movements. The staff has been relentlessly working towards rescuing the leopard and bringing it back to its cage.

The leopard was seen thrice since last night. It is within the zoo premises but not yet caught. The rescue team has been working on capturing the leopard since he went missing.
