This December, Pune is all set to transform into a vibrant literary hub, with a plethora of book fairs, literary festivals, and events celebrating the written word.

The city’s literary calendar is packed with exciting events, including the 22nd edition of the Pune Book Fair, scheduled from December 4-8 at Ganesh Kala Krida Manch. The fair promises to be a treasure trove for book lovers, with a vast collection of books on various genres, including education, science, technology, health, and literature in multiple languages.

PNR Rajan, fair convener, expressed optimism about the event, while talking to media he said, “We expect over 25,000 attendees this year, and we’re confident that the fair will continue to be a major draw for book lovers in the city.”

The fair will feature a range of activities, including candid interviews with renowned authors, poets, and artists, as well as a “Nimantritanche Kavi Sammelan” where Indian poets will recite their latest verses.

Another major literary event, the Pune International Literary Festival 2024, is scheduled to take place on December 14-15 at the Yashada campus. The festival promises to be a vibrant confluence of over 100 speakers across more than 70 sessions, with a special children’s attraction titled “Treasure Island.”

Manjiri Prabhu, founder-director of the festival, emphasized the importance of promoting reading as a part of our culture. “Our underlying focus is to encourage reading as a part of our culture and as a lifeline. We aim to facilitate a direct connection between creative personalities and readers, creating an inspirational platform for all creative people.”

The festival will feature sessions with acclaimed authors, including Devdutt Pattanaik, Sahar Zaman, and the descendants of Lokmanya Tilak. Other highlights include discussions on the intersection of culture and AI, the evolving landscape of publishing, and a tribute to the Anand brothers’ cinematic journey.

In addition to these major events, smaller literary gatherings and book clubs are also sprouting up across the city. The Literature Club Pune, for instance, will host a discussion on “The Dichotomy that is Life (as represented in literature)” on December 8.

Pune Book Festival To Be Held Between December 14 and 22 

The second edition of the Pune Book Festival is set to take place from December 14 to 22 at Fergusson College grounds, organizers announced recently. The event is a collaborative effort by the National Book Trust (NBT), Deccan Education Society, and Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), according to NBT President Milind Marathe.

As Pune gears up to host a month-long literary extravaganza, book lovers and wordsmiths alike can look forward to a festive celebration of the written word.
