Pune’s Minimum Temperature Surges by 7.7°C in 48 Hours Amid Cyclone Aftermath
In a sudden and dramatic turn, Pune’s minimum temperature has risen by 7.7°C in just 48 hours, from 9.8°C to 17.4°C. This significant increase has resulted in an above-average minimum temperature in the city.
According to experts from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the rapid weakening of Cyclone Fengal following its landfall led to the spread of moisture, causing the northerly wind to be blocked and resulting in the rise in minimum temperature.
The city had been experiencing single-digit minimum temperatures regularly last week, with Shivajinagar recording 9.9°C on November 27 and 9.5°C on November 28. However, the minimum temperature began to rise significantly from November 30, reaching 13.4°C on December 1 and 17.4°C on December 2.
Anupam Kashyapi, former head of the Weather and Forecasting division, IMD Pune, explained to the media person that, “The rapid weakening of the system following the landfall of Cyclone Fengal resulted in the spread of moisture. So, the northerly wind was blocked, resulting in a rise in the minimum temperature.”
The IMD forecast suggests that Maharashtra will experience increased moisture levels due to the low-pressure area located in north Tamil Nadu. “For the next four to five days, all four sub-divisions of Maharashtra are expected to receive mild rainfall. In Pune, the weather will be mostly gloomy for the next three days,” the IMD forecast stated.

Meanwhile, the maximum temperature in Pune City was recorded at 29.6°C, which is close to normal. Most districts in Maharashtra are currently experiencing below-average maximum temperatures.
The IMD has also predicted light to very light rainfall in central Maharashtra on December 5 and 6, with mostly cloudy weather conditions.
