PMC launches emergency helpdesk; families asked to share passport and contact details

In view of the escalating Iran-Israel conflict and its impact on Indian nationals abroad, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has launched an emergency response plan to assist Punekars stranded in war-affected regions.

The civic body has decided to set up a dedicated 24-hour helpline and create an official data bank of residents and tourists from Pune who are currently stuck in conflict-hit areas. The move comes as part of a broader disaster management strategy aimed at ensuring timely coordination with state and central authorities.

According to officials, a separate helpdesk is being established at the municipal headquarters. A special helpline number will be announced shortly. Families of stranded citizens can contact the helpline at any time and provide details to facilitate assistance.

The PMC has appealed to relatives in Pune to share key information, including the full name of the stranded person, their current overseas or hotel address, passport number and available local contact number. This data will be compiled into an official database to ensure accuracy in relief efforts.

Officials said the information collected will be immediately shared with the Maharashtra government, the Central government and the Ministry of External Affairs to speed up coordination with Indian embassies and concerned authorities abroad. The objective is to enable swift rescue operations and ensure the safe return of affected citizens.

Emphasising the seriousness of the situation, municipal authorities have directed officials to act on a war footing. The administration stated that the initiative is not only meant to provide immediate assistance but also to serve as a preparedness model for future international crises.

Through the data bank, authorities aim to determine the number of stranded citizens, assess their condition and identify the type of assistance required. This structured approach is expected to make rescue and evacuation efforts more effective.

The PMC has urged citizens to remain calm, avoid rumours and rely only on official communication channels. Families of affected individuals are encouraged to promptly share details so that coordinated efforts can ensure everyone’s safe return.

Disclaimer: Citizens should verify official helpline numbers through PMC’s authorised communication channels before sharing personal information.
