Pune: Seven Tourists Charged For Violating Prohibitory Order In Lonavla
The Lonavla rural police have registered a case against seven tourists for violating a prohibitory order issued by the District Collector at popular tourist spots in the region. The action comes after a tragic incident where five members of the same family were swept away in a waterfall at Bhushi Dam.
The prohibitory order, aimed at ensuring the safety of visitors, was issued following the recent accident. Despite repeated advisories and warnings, tourists continue to engage in dangerous activities in areas such as Ambegaon, Pavananagar, and Bhaje waterfalls.
Police Inspector Kishore Dhumal of Lonavla Rural Police Station stated that the seven tourists have been charged under Section 223 of the Indian Judicial Code 2023 for violating the prohibitory order. “Tourists have been repeatedly advised to refrain from dangerous activities, but many continue to ignore safety measures, inviting accidents,” he said.
On July 21, around 2 pm, action was taken against five tourists who managed to evade police notice at a waterfall in Ambegaon. Additionally, two tourists were apprehended for venturing near the waterfall in the Bhaje Leni area. So far, Lonavla rural police have registered cases against 15 tourists for similar violations.
Inspector Dhumal emphasized that a significant number of tourists from Lonavla city, as well as rural areas of Pune and Mumbai, visit these spots during the rainy season. “While tourists should enjoy their visits, they must not endanger their lives. We have issued instructions and put up warning boards at various locations. Strict action will be taken against anyone violating the Collector’s orders,” he added.
The Lonavla rural police urge all tourists to adhere to safety guidelines to prevent further accidents and ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.
