Pune Railway Station To Modernize With New Electronic Interlocking System
Pune Railway Station is set to undergo a significant technological upgrade with the introduction of an advanced ‘Electronic Interlocking’ signal system. The project, which is expected to cost approximately Rs 95 crore, will commence on August 1. The first phase involves constructing a new building at the old Maldhakka premises, where the new system will be activated.
The current Root Relay Interlocking (RRI) system is becoming obsolete. The new electronic interlocking technology is designed to address the limitations of the old system, reducing the risk of malfunctions. It will enhance the detection and resolution of faults, ensuring a more reliable signaling process. Once the new system is fully operational, the existing RRI building will be demolished. This is a critical development for Pune station, and it has received the Railway Board’s approval. The new system will significantly improve passenger traffic management and overall safety.
The electronic interlocking system offers several advantages. Signals will be processed within seconds, a notable improvement over the previous manual process. The new system requires minimal space and is designed for easy maintenance, with a low signal loss rate. Additionally, faults can be detected and rectified immediately, ensuring a smoother operation.
