Pune Shocker: 40-Year-Old Prostitute Taken to Hill, Killed by Six Men; Body Thrown into Deep Stone Pit in Mangdewadi
Pune: In a disturbing crime, a 40-year-old woman was brutally killed by six men in Pune, and her body was dumped into a deep quarry in the Mangdewadi area. Police have arrested all six accused, and further investigation is underway.
The deceased has been identified as Shafia Salim Sheikh (40), who was engaged in sex work. Her body was found on February 10 in a quarry around 50 to 55 feet deep. Following the discovery, a case was registered at the Bharati Vidyapeeth police station, and the Crime Branch took over the probe.
According to police, the incident began on the night of February 8 when the woman was standing in an intoxicated condition near Kanha Chowk in the Kondhwa area. Three of the accused spotted her and decided to take her to a lodge in Katraj. However, instead of going to the lodge, they took her to a hill near a quarry in Mangdewadi. Shortly after, three more accused joined them at the spot.
While drinking alcohol at the hilltop, the woman questioned why she had been taken there instead of to a lodge. This led to an argument, following which the accused allegedly assaulted her in a fit of rage. She died during the assault. To avoid suspicion, the accused then threw her body into the nearby quarry.
Police said that after the body was found, a detailed investigation was launched using CCTV footage, technical analysis, and local intelligence. Based on the evidence, all six suspects were detained and later arrested. During interrogation, the accused reportedly confessed to the crime.
Clarifying the case, the Police Commissioner stated that there is no evidence of gang rape in this incident. He said the woman had accompanied the accused, and the case is strictly one of murder. All six accused are currently in police custody, and the Crime Branch is continuing further investigation.
