Pune: The Shrimant Dagdusheth Halwai Public Ganapati Trust celebrated Sankashti Chaturthi by decorating the temple premises with green grapes on March 11. The temple was decorated with black and green grapes, weighing a total of 2,000 kg, grown by farmers of the Sahyadri Farmers Producer Company in Nashik. Devotees thronged to the temple to see the attractive arrangement of grapes in the auditorium.

The festival aimed to raise awareness about the crisis faced by grape farming due to climate change and falling market prices. Despite the challenges, farmers continue to have the courage to overcome the crisis. To show support, offerings were made to Lord Ganesha on behalf of the farmers.

Sunil Rasane, Vice Chairman of the Trust, highlighted the importance of grapes in ancient Indian Ayurveda. Grapes are a good source of potassium, magnesium, calcium, and vitamin C, reducing the risk of heart disease, and slowing the effects of aging on the brain. Furthermore, grapes are rich in fiber, which aids in weight loss and relieves constipation.

To promote good health, the grapes used in the festival will be distributed as prasad to devotees, orphanages, old age homes, and hospitals. This is the second year in a row that the Trust has organized a grape festival during the grape season.
