Anis Sundke, the AIMIM candidate for the Pune Lok Sabha seat, stated that many notable people in the nation have memorials that serve as inspiration for the next generation. As a result, he plans to establish a grand memorial for Tipu Sultan after winning the Pune seat as an MP. His comments are likely to spark controversy.

Dheeraj Ghate, the BJP city unit president, strongly opposed the announcement and claimed that erection of a memorial for Tipu Sultan on Pune’s land will not be permitted under any circumstances, and that a police complaint will be filed concerning this matter.

On Sunday, he was speaking at a press conference in the city. In attendance were Patit Pavan Sanghatana’s Swapnil Naik, Datta Khade, Maha Yuti Coordinator Sandeep Khardekar, Joint Publicity Chief Pushkar Tuljapukar, and BJP Election Management Committee Coordinator Shrinath Bhimale.

Further, he spoke on behalf of the Bharatiya Janata Party and said that the party vehemently opposes the proposal of building a memorial or celebrating Tipu Sultan’s birth anniversary  because he tortured the Hindu population. He alleged that Sundke is trying to create differences between the Hindu and the Muslim Communities by bringing up this topic during the election season.

Additionally, he stated that Pune is the cultural capital of the state and out of the several historical figures associated with the place, the Hindutva outfits would never permit a cruel leader like Tipu Sultan to be venerated.

The official X (formerly Twitter) handle of ‘Sanatan Prabhat’ also opposed the statement in their post which read:

“𝗜𝘁’𝘀 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗛𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝗰𝗵 𝗮 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗶 𝗦𝗵𝗶𝘃𝗮𝗷𝗶 𝗠𝗮𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗷’𝘀 𝗠𝗮𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗮𝘀𝗵𝘁𝗿𝗮, 𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝗣𝘂𝗻𝗲!

It is infuriating for a discussion to take place on erecting the memorial of the cruel Tipu Sultan in Maharashtra, who converted lakhs of Hindus, razed thousands of temples and violated the dignity of countless Hindu women. The Police must intervene promptly to curb such tendencies in time. Will Hindus awaken at least now?

It will not be surprising if those erecting the memorial of the cruel Tipu Sultan today start behaving like him tomorrow!”

A few months ago, there was much controversy around the Karnataka government’s decision to celebrate Tipu Sultan’s birth anniversary. In response to the Congress government’s plan to commemorate this anniversary, the BJP had adopted a strong defence. As such, Sundke’s remarks are certain to spark debate.

Meanwhile, addressing a rally, Sundke also talked about how, once elected, all Members of Parliament neglect the Muslim minority that they perceive as merely vote banks, and urged people to elect an MP who will work for them.
