Pune Siblings Found Dead in Kerala Hotel Room; Suicide Notes Reveal Financial Struggles
Two siblings from Pune, Maharashtra, were found dead in a hotel room in Thampanoor, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. The tragic incident was reported on Sunday, January 19, after hotel staff alerted the police.
The deceased have been identified as Dakatai Kontiba Baman (48) and Mukta Kontiba Baman (45). Both had checked into the hotel on Friday, January 17. When there was no response from the room on Sunday morning, hotel staff knocked repeatedly. Upon receiving no answer, they informed the police.
Police found the brother hanging from the ceiling fan, while the sister’s body was on the bed. A suicide note was recovered from the room. It stated, “We have no home or job. Do not hand over our bodies to relatives.”
According to preliminary investigations, the brother may have killed his sister before taking his own life. The woman was differently-abled, and the duo had likely come to Kerala for medical treatment.
Police suspect economic hardship might have driven the siblings to take this extreme step. However, they are investigating whether the case involves foul play. A post-mortem report will confirm the exact cause of death.
The siblings were residents of Pune and had recently traveled to Kerala. The note revealed their desperate situation, adding a grim dimension to the tragedy.
This incident highlights the psychological and economic challenges faced by individuals, often pushing them to the brink. Police have registered a case and are continuing their investigation.
