For the second day running, Shivajinagar saw temperatures soar to a scorching 38.8 degrees Celsius, marking the highest of the season. Lavale didn’t fare any better, hitting 40 degrees Celsius. The forecast doesn’t offer respite, predicting above-normal temperatures for the next week.

“It’s been tough with both day and night temperatures rising. The last two days have been especially uncomfortable,” shared a resident.Ā In response to the conditions, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) issued a health advisory, urging citizens to take precautions. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had forewarned of this heatwave.

Based on the data provided by IMD, the temperatures in Pune are currently 2.7 degrees Celsius higher than the normal average temperature. Pashan, Lohegaon, and Magarpatta witnessed temperatures ranging from 39.2 to 39.6 degrees Celsius, with Lavale peaking at 40.9 degrees Celsius.

Nighttime temperatures aren’t providing relief either. Shivajinagar recorded a minimum of 18.6 degrees Celsius, 2.1 degrees above normal. Other areas ranged from 18 to 26 degrees Celsius. Pashan, typically cooler, recorded 20 degrees Celsius.

Rising relative humidity worsens the situation, reaching 58% at night. This is a 3% increase from the previous day, adding to discomfort.

Akola recorded the state’s highest temperature at 41.5 degrees Celsius, while Pune’s lowest dipped to 18.6 degrees Celsius. Buldhana experienced a significant rise, hitting 40.2 degrees Celsius, 5.1 degrees above normal.
