Pune: Sopan Baug Society's Management Penalized For Audit And AGM Lapses
Pune, December 9, 2024: The Deputy Registrar of Cooperative Societies has taken strict action against the management committee of Mahindra Lartista Society in Sopan Baug for failing to comply with the Maharashtra Cooperative Societies Act. Violations include delays in audits, failure to submit audit reports, and not holding the annual general meeting (AGM) within the stipulated time.
Deputy Registrar Neelam Pingle canceled the memberships of seven key office bearers, including the president, secretary, and treasurer, declaring them ineligible to contest elections for six months. The management committee was also accused of not maintaining member registers, submitting necessary returns, or adhering to financial deadlines as mandated under Sections 75(4) and 79 of the Act. She also mentioned that the facts didn’t match the details shared by the management committee.
The action followed a complaint by former committee member Anjali Patil, prompting an investigation by cooperative officers. Their report revealed that the society conducted a consolidated audit for 2021-2023 but failed to meet deadlines or submit required documents.
A temporary three-member committee will now oversee the society’s affairs until new office bearers are elected. However, the expelled members have contested the charges, claiming they were unfairly targeted by former society members and emphasizing their commitment to voluntary service.
The Deputy Registrar’s office emphasized the importance of compliance with cooperative laws to ensure transparency and accountability in society management.
