In a shocking incident at SavitriBai Phule Pune University, a young man was brutally beaten up, sparking outrage across the campus. The victim, a student at the university’s skill development center, was attacked by a group of ten to twelve individuals while passing through the university canteen with his girlfriend.
The assailants, claiming to be activists of a Hindutva organization, demanded the victim’s Aadhaar card and questioned the couple about their religion. They separated the girl to counsel her on this matter while threatening and assaulting the young man.
Following the assault, the victim managed to contact his family, who were instructed by the attackers to take him away. Subsequently, the accused individuals escorted the victim to his hostel, where they forced him to vacate his room.
The incident has prompted widespread condemnation, with a written complaint filed with the university hostel authorities and a case registered at the Chatushrungi police station. The assault has raised concerns about the safety and security of students on campus, as well as the prevalence of religious intolerance and vigilantism.
