Pune: State Excise Seizes Illegal Liquor Worth Over ₹1.33 Crore In Saswad

Pune, July 12, 2025: The flying squad of the State Excise Department, Saswad Division, seized illegal liquor and other materials worth ₹1.33 crore during a raid conducted at Veer Phata, Jejuri-Saswad Road, Purandar, informed Atul Kanade, Superintendent of State Excise, Pune.

Acting on a tip-off, the Saswad team set up a trap and intercepted a Tata LPT (1212) container truck (MH-49-AT-3471). On inspection, they found a massive stock of illicit liquor— 1,204 boxes containing 57,792 bottles of Goa-made Royal Blue Malt Whiskey (180 ml each). The total value of the liquor was estimated at ₹1.15 crore. Including the truck, mobile phones, and other seized items, the total seizure amounts to ₹1.33 crore.

A case has been registered against the driver under relevant sections of the Maharashtra Prohibition Act, 1949, and the accused has been arrested.

Deputy Superintendent Santosh Jagdale and Inspector Sambhaji Barge led the operation, with further investigation underway under Inspector Barge’s supervision.
