Indian Railways continues to strengthen passenger safety and security infrastructure across its network through the expansion of surveillance systems and adoption of advanced monitoring technologies. As part of these efforts, CCTV systems are being installed at all crossing railway stations under the Pune Railway Division to enhance monitoring and ensure greater safety for passengers. CCTV installation has already been completed at 43 stations under the Division, with a total of 854 cameras commissioned so far.

In addition, surveillance infrastructure at Pune Railway Station has been significantly strengthened, with the number of CCTV cameras under the existing Video Surveillance System increased from 75 to 160.

With a view to further strengthen surveillance mechanisms at sensitive railway stations across Indian Railways, installation of an Integrated Security System (ISS) has been planned. The ISS comprises multiple security components including Close Circuit Television (CCTV) surveillance systems, access control systems, personal and baggage screening systems, and bomb detection systems. Under this initiative, a total of 228 baggage scanners have been provided across the railway network. Additionally, 420 trained dogs have been deployed across various Zonal Railways for explosive detection and tracking purposes, further strengthening the overall security preparedness of the railway system.

Further, 76 railway stations across Indian Railways have been identified for advance preparedness and development of a well-coordinated strategy for crowd management, particularly during periods of high passenger footfall. At these stations, a large number of CCTV cameras will be installed and new generation communication equipment such as walkie-talkies, announcement systems and calling systems will be provided to improve coordination and passenger information dissemination. War rooms, manned by officers from different departments, are also planned during crowd situations to ensure effective monitoring and timely response.

Installation of CCTV systems at railway stations across Indian Railways, except halt stations, is a continuous and ongoing process. So far, CCTV cameras have been installed at 1,825 railway stations across the railway network. These systems are equipped with AI-based video analytics features such as intrusion detection, loitering detection and fallen person detection. The use of these advanced technologies enables enhanced real-time monitoring and early incident detection, thereby strengthening passenger safety and improving security management at railway stations across the country.
