Pimpri-Chinchwad, December 17, 2025: In an effort to regulate the feeding of stray dogs and address public safety and health concerns, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has asked residents who regularly feed stray animals to submit formal applications to the civic body’s veterinary department.

Civic officials said applicants must clearly mention key details such as the exact feeding location, preferred time, estimated number of stray dogs at the spot, and other relevant information. The data will help the municipal corporation identify and approve suitable feeding points while ensuring that the activity does not inconvenience local residents or pose health risks.

The deadline for submitting applications is December 31, 2025. Citizens have been instructed to submit their applications in person to the PCMC veterinary department.

According to the civic administration, the move is aimed at streamlining stray animal feeding practices in line with guidelines laid down by the Supreme Court. By mapping feeding locations and monitoring activities, the PCMC hopes to balance animal welfare with the safety and concerns of the general public.

Deputy Commissioner of the PCMC veterinary department, Sandeep Khot, said the prescribed application format has been uploaded on the official PCMC website. He appealed to animal lovers and volunteers to cooperate with the civic body by following the laid-down procedure.

The issue of stray dog management has recently drawn attention at the state level as well. During the winter session of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, legislators discussed the growing number of stray dog attacks in major cities and raised concerns over public safety. BJP MLA Mahesh Landge alleged that certain animal welfare groups were hampering efforts to capture and sterilise stray dogs, claiming that more than one lakh dog bite cases were reported in Pune over the past three years.
