Pune Swargate Bus Depot Rape Case: Condoms, Clothes, And Other Items Found In Scrapped Bus
Pune’s Swargate bus depot has come under intense scrutiny following the rape of a 26-year-old woman inside an abandoned Shivshahi bus. The shocking incident has raised serious concerns about security lapses at the depot. Authorities searching the old, scrapped buses at the site discovered controversial items, including condoms, sarees, bedsheets, blankets, undergarments, and liquor bottles, leading to suspicions of illicit activities taking place within these vehicles.
The incident has sent shockwaves through Pune, a city known as an educational hub. The accused is currently absconding, and police have deployed eight teams to track him down. The presence of scrapped buses at the depot has long been ignored, but this case has brought the issue to the forefront, with allegations that these vehicles are being used for unlawful activities.

In response, Shiv Sena (Thackeray faction) leader Vasant More criticized the lack of security, even breaking into the security office in protest. Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik has since suspended 23 security personnel and ordered the immediate removal of all abandoned buses from the depot, stating that their presence encourages criminal activities. He also directed that, moving forward, no decommissioned buses should be allowed to remain in any bus station premises.
The case has sparked widespread demands for better security and stricter monitoring of public transport hubs to prevent similar incidents in the future.
