Pune Techie Rape Case: No Forced Entry Or Spray Used, Suspect Known To Victim, Say Police
Pune: Hours after detaining a suspect in connection with the alleged rape of a 22-year-old woman techie in her apartment, Pune Police on Friday revealed that preliminary investigations found no evidence of forced entry or use of any spray to render the woman unconscious.
Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar said the suspect was not a delivery executive, as initially claimed by the victim, but an acquaintance she had known for the past year. “The entry into the complainant’s house was not forceful. No substance was sprayed on the complainant. The selfie taken on her phone was clicked with her consent, and the threatening message written on it was edited by the woman after the man left her house,” Kumar stated.
However, the commissioner added, “The rape allegation made by the complainant is still under investigation.”
Earlier in the day, police announced that a suspect had been detained in connection with the case and was being questioned.
According to the initial complaint, the woman said the man posed as a delivery executive and claimed he had brought bank documents for her. He allegedly asked for an acknowledgement but said he had forgotten his pen. When she went inside to get a pen, he entered the flat and locked the door from inside.
In her complaint, the woman alleged that the man sprayed an unknown substance on her, rendering her unconscious, and then raped her. She claimed he also took a selfie on her phone and left behind a threatening message before fleeing.
The victim regained consciousness about an hour later, called a close acquaintance who acts as her local guardian, and later visited the area police station to lodge a complaint.
Police said they are continuing to verify details and investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. The suspect remains in custody as questioning continues.
