Pune Techie Rape Case: Police Say ‘Not a Rape’, 5 Key Findings That Contradict Woman’s Allegations
Pune: Rape Case Filed Against Praful Lodha in Bavdhan Police station; Faces Multiple Charges in Mumbai
Pune, July 8: In a major update to the alleged rape case involving a 22-year-old IT professional in Pune, police investigations have revealed that it was not a case of sexual assault. The accused, a 25-year-old man initially believed to be a delivery agent, has been released with conditions after crucial probe findings contradicted the woman’s claims.
The complainant has been placed under her parents’ care, and her statement has been recorded before a magistrate. Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar confirmed that digital evidence and witness statements do not support the allegations of rape.
Here are five key revelations from the police probe:
1. Accused’s Identity: The accused is not a delivery executive but an employee at a multinational accounting firm. He had known the woman socially for over a year and had visited her house previously.
2. No Forced Entry: Call records and messages indicate that his visit was consensual, not forced.
3. No Substance Used: Forensic reports found no trace of any spray or substance that rendered the woman unconscious, as alleged.
4. Selfie and Threat Message: The selfie was taken with mutual consent, and the threatening message was later edited by the complainant on her own phone.
5. Deleted Data Recovered: Police recovered deleted photos and chats that contradict her claims.
“Based on strong evidence, this is not a rape case. We are evaluating further action against the complainant,” said Commissioner Kumar to The Indian Express
The case has sparked debates about misuse of legal provisions and the need for caution in such sensitive matters.
