Pune News: Young Couple Seriously Injured After Bike Falls Into Gorge at Sinhagad Ghat Road
Quick thinking helped five occupants of a tempo avoid a fatal accident after the vehicle reportedly suffered brake failure while travelling down the Sinhgad ghat road on Saturday afternoon. The tempo crashed through a roadside barrier and fell almost 200 metres into a deep gorge, but the passengers managed to jump out moments before the vehicle went off the edge.
The incident took place near the turn at 11 Thousand Point, below Talai Udyan, a section of the ghat known for its steep descent and sharp bends. Officials said the tempo lost control while descending the slope, allegedly due to brake failure.
Sensing that the vehicle was about to plunge into the valley, the people inside reacted quickly and jumped out just before it went off the road. Their split-second decision helped prevent a far more serious outcome.
Out of the five individuals travelling in the tempo, three sustained minor injuries while two escaped without any injuries.
After authorities were informed about the crash, officials from the forest department, personnel from Haveli Police Station, and members of a rescue team immediately rushed to the location to carry out rescue operations.
The injured were later taken out of the gorge and shifted by ambulance to a private hospital in Khadakwasla for medical treatment.
Assistant Sub-Inspector Santosh Todkar said the vehicle had fallen into a forested area deep in the valley. Reaching the exact location where the tempo had landed was difficult, and members of the rescue team had to trek on foot for nearly two and a half hours to reach the spot.
By the time rescuers reached the vehicle, they found no one inside, as all the occupants had already jumped out before the fall. Officials confirmed that the tempo was severely damaged in the accident. Authorities noted that the timely reaction of the passengers played a crucial role in preventing a loss of life, turning what could have been a fatal crash into a narrow escape.
