Pune to Set Up Cyber Lab for Investigating Cyber Crimes, Modelled on Navi Mumbai’s Setup
Pune, January 24, 2025
The rise in cyber crimes in Pune has prompted the police department to consider setting up a dedicated Cyber Lab, inspired by the one in Navi Mumbai. Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar shared this update on Thursday while reviewing the city’s annual crime statistics. The proposal for the Cyber Lab will soon be sent to the Home Department for approval.
With the increasing number of cyber crimes in the city, the authorities are looking to strengthen their investigative capabilities. Commissioner Kumar emphasized that efforts are being made to combat the growing threat, with advisories regularly issued to the public to avoid falling victim to cyber criminals.
The Cyber Lab, which has already been established in Navi Mumbai, will serve as a model for the new lab in Pune. Additionally, the creation of a dedicated Cyber Police Station in the city is also being explored. Currently, the Shivajinagar Police Headquarters is home to a Cyber Police Station. These initiatives are aimed at tackling cyber crimes more effectively and ensuring the safety of residents in Pune.
