In a surprising incident, a toddler accidentally locked her mother and three-year-old brother in the bathroom while playing in their home in the Chandan Nagar area of Pune on Wednesday.

The Pune Fire Brigade reported receiving a call at their control room around 12:40 PM about a family trapped inside their flat. It was revealed that the one-and-a-half-year-old girl had locked her mother and brother in the bathroom, with the main door of the flat latched from the outside.

Neighbours, upon noticing the situation, alerted the woman’s husband, who subsequently called the fire brigade for help. A rescue team and a fire tender from the Yerwada Fire Station were quickly dispatched to the scene.

Firefighters arrived to find the family trapped in a flat on the second floor of the building. Within 20 minutes, they successfully rescued the mother, who is in her 20s, along with her two children.

“Our team accessed the balcony of the neighbouring flat to reach the balcony of the locked apartment. Using cutting tools and crowbars, they broke the latch of the balcony door and entered the house. They first comforted the crying toddler found in one of the rooms before opening the bathroom door to rescue the mother and her elder child,” said an officer from the Yerwada Fire Station.

The quick response and effective actions of the firefighters ensured the family’s safety, much to the relief of the concerned neighbours and the woman’s husband.
