Pune, April 2, 2026: Commuters traveling on major highways connecting Pune, including routes to Mumbai, Kolhapur, Solapur, and Nashik, will face higher travel costs from April 1 as the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) implements a three percent increase in toll rates.

In addition to the hike, toll collection will shift entirely to a cashless system. Payments at toll plazas will now be accepted only via FASTag or UPI, with cash no longer accepted. Authorities have urged vehicle owners to ensure their FASTags are active before starting their journey to avoid delays.

The revised toll rates are part of NHAI’s routine annual revision and are expected to impact both daily commuters and transport operators. For those traveling between Pune and Mumbai, the increased tolls could slightly raise the overall travel expense, especially for buses and commercial vehicles.

New Toll Rates (Select Plazas):

  • Anewadi Toll Plaza: Cars ₹85 one-way / ₹130 return; Heavy Vehicles ₹465 one-way / ₹695 return
  • Indapur Toll Plaza: Cars ₹75 one-way / ₹110 return; Heavy Vehicles ₹275 one-way / ₹410 return
  • Khed Shivapur Toll Plaza: Cars ₹125 one-way / ₹190 return; Heavy Vehicles ₹665 one-way / ₹1,000 return
  • Chalakwadi Toll Plaza: Cars ₹135 one-way / ₹200 return; Heavy Vehicles ₹495 one-way / ₹740 return

Officials noted that the cashless system aims to speed up toll collection and improve transparency. However, commuters should expect an increase in travel expenses from April 1, particularly on long-distance routes such as Pune–Mumbai, where toll costs are a significant portion of overall travel expenditure.

The NHAI has emphasized that the changes are intended to streamline operations at toll plazas while maintaining safety and efficiency for all road users.
