Pune Traffic Police Act Against 455 Drunk Drivers During Holi; 870 Illegal Silencers Destroyed
Pune, March 4, 2026: The Pune City Traffic Police, under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Himmat Jadhav, carried out extensive enforcement drives during the Holi and Dhulivandan celebrations, taking strict action against traffic violations across the city.
On March 3, 2026, a total of 455 motorists were booked for driving under the influence of alcohol as part of a special “Drunk and Drive” operation conducted during the festive period.
In a separate crackdown on modified motorcycles, the department reported action against 2,822 Bullet motorcycles fitted with loud and illegal silencers between February 2026 and March 4, 2026. Of these, 870 unauthorized silencers were removed and seized. The authorities imposed fines amounting to ₹28.17 lakh, of which ₹23.15 lakh has already been recovered and deposited with the government. On March 4, 2026, the confiscated silencers were destroyed using a bulldozer at the Yerawada Traffic Office to prevent their reuse.
The Traffic Police also intensified action against triple-seat riding. Since February 2026, as many as 15,009 riders have been penalized for carrying more than the permitted number of passengers. Fines totaling ₹1.48 crore were imposed, with ₹88.52 lakh collected so far.
Additionally, a counselling session was organized on March 4 at the Yerawada Traffic Office for 250 to 300 drivers booked in drunk driving cases. Officials emphasized responsible driving and adherence to traffic norms.
The department has appealed to citizens to avoid drunk driving, refrain from using loud silencers and unnecessary honking—especially in silence zones such as hospitals, schools, colleges, and residential societies—and to strictly follow traffic regulations to ensure road safety in Pune.
