Road works being carried out in front of the Regional Transport Office (RTO) on Raja Bahadur Mill Road in Pune have become a cause of daily traffic congestion, inconveniencing commuters and prompting calls for the swift completion of the project.

The ongoing construction has resulted in traffic snarls, particularly during peak hours, exacerbating travel woes for residents, especially those commuting to Pune railway station.

With only a single lane open to vehicles, the movement of traffic has significantly slowed down, leading to delays for commuters traveling from various parts of the city. Those traveling towards Raja Bahadur Mill Road have reported experiencing delays while navigating from CoEP-Sangam bridge towards RTO Chowk and from Juna Bazaar Chowk towards RTO.

In response to the concerns raised by commuters, Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) officials have assured that the road works are expected to be completed in the coming days. A senior PMC official stated that efforts are being made to expedite the repair and paving of stretches, with instructions given to the contractor to prioritize the smooth movement of vehicles.

However, this is not the only area experiencing prolonged road works. The riverside road near Deccan Gymkhana has also seen unfinished construction dragging on for months, adding to the frustration of residents and commuters.

Regular commuters have voiced their dissatisfaction with the current state of the roads, highlighting concerns about the uneven surfaces and poor quality of workmanship.

A regular commuter said the entire stretch near RTO had become bumpy and risky. “The surface has become uneven because of repeated tarring and fixing of paver blocks. The road was resurfaced after the Metro works, but the work was not done properly.”

Despite previous resurfacing efforts following Metro works, the road remains bumpy and poses risks to motorists.

As the situation persists, residents are hopeful that the authorities will address the issues promptly and ensure that road works are completed efficiently to alleviate traffic congestion and enhance safety on Pune’s roadways.
