Pune Tragedy: TCS IT Engineer Found Dead Over Betting Debt in Hinjawadi
Deep distress seems to have driven a 24-year-old IT engineer to a tragic end inside the premises of a major IT company in Hinjawadi Phase 3 during the early hours of Tuesday. The deceased, Sujal Vinod Oswal, a resident of Wanowrie, was employed with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) at the Rajiv Gandhi IT Park in Mulshi Tehsil.
According to police, Sujal entered the company late at night, went to the canteen area, and locked himself in a restroom, where he allegedly ended his life using a charging cable.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 2), Vishal Gaikwad, told The Free Press Journal that preliminary investigations indicate the incident occurred between 12:30 AM and 12:45 AM. Before taking this extreme step, Sujal reportedly sent a distressing message to his family, citing severe financial losses from online betting as a reason for his actions.
Hinjawadi police reached the spot shortly after being informed and discovered the body. Officials have stated that the primary motive appears to be mental distress related to gambling debts. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination, a detailed panchanama has been recorded, and an Accidental Death Report (ADR) will be filed at the Hinjawadi Police Station.
The investigation is continuing under the supervision of DCP Gaikwad and Senior Police Inspector Balaji Pandhare. Officials are reviewing all aspects to understand the circumstances that led to this tragic event.
