Pune: Tragic Death Of Second Year MSc Applied Chemistry Student, Leaves DIAT Community In Shock

Pune: The Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT) community is reeling from the tragic loss of Aneet Abhishek, a bright and dedicated second-year MSc Applied Chemistry student, who was found dead in his hostel room on April 17, 2025. His untimely passing has sent shock to the community, prompting heartfelt condolences and renewed focus on student mental health support. 

The organisation informed, “We are deeply saddened to inform about the unfortunate demise of Aneet Abhishek,  a meritorious and sincere student of 2nd year MSc (Applied Chemistry) who attempted to take his own life on 17th April 2025 by hanging himself from a ceiling fan in his room (Krishna Hostel).”

His friends noticed his absence in the morning and repeatedly tried contacting him. In the evening of 17/04/2025 around 08:30 pm when he didn’t respond, they reached his room and they found the door locked from inside. On breaking the door, Aneet Abhishek was found hanging from the ceiling fan. He was immediately taken to nearby hospital, by the institute ambulance where he was declared dead. Later, he was transferred to Sasoon Hospital for post-mortem as per the protocol. His family along with police were informed accordingly. The team of Nanded City Police Station visited the place of incident and seized his belongings and a laptop, mobile, and tablet for further investigation. The police also found a suicide note.

Preliminary findings suggest that he was in a state of depression. This tragic loss has left the entire community in deep sorrow. A heartfelt condolence meeting was organized at DIAT on 21/04/2025 for departed soul. 

During the condolence meeting students were counselled and requested to contact institute authority and faculty for any problem. They were further advised to approach institute Counsellor, in case of any stress related issues.   

The students are hoping that the real reason behind his suicide should be made public.
