Pune, May 8, 2025: Residents of Holkarwadi, Undri, Pisoli, and Mohammadwadi raised serious concerns over the inadequate daily water supply during a meeting with Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) officials on Wednesday. The meeting was convened in the wake of a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed in the Bombay High Court regarding ongoing water problems in these areas.

Several meetings have been held in Pune Municipal Corporation by residents of Undri, Pisoli, Mohamadwadi but they are yet to see any concrete yet. Local MLA and MP have held meetings with the PMC commissioner but the civic body has failed to create any action plan and has not laid the necessary water network for the area.

The joint meeting, held at PMC’s head office, saw residents voicing frustration over the civic body’s failure to ensure adequate water distribution, which has forced many societies to depend heavily on costly private tankers despite regular tax payments.

Residents blamed the poor distribution infrastructure, citing three overhead storage tanks that have been ready for months but remain unused due to incomplete connections. Many said they continue to face severe hardship and financial burden as PMC-provided water is either irregular or entirely unavailable.

Advocate Satya Muley, representing residents in the High Court, said, “We have presented the grievances to the civic administration and will continue to follow up to ensure immediate and short-term resolutions are implemented.”

Residents of newly merged areas—brought under PMC jurisdiction in 1995, 2017 and 2021—expressed disappointment over the lack of basic amenities. Ashish Ingale from Majestique Rhythm County in Handewadi said, “Despite having over 700 flats, our society gets little to no water supply from PMC. We’re forced to buy from private tankers at steep rates.”

Following the Bombay High Court’s direction, the Pune Municipal Corporation offered societies a chance to raise their water-related concerns. Residents are thankful to Advocate Satya Mule for his steadfast support and legal guidance, which empowered them to voice their issues confidently. His commitment has been vital to advancing this initiative. Constructive solutions—both temporary and long-term—were proposed by Nandkishor Jagtap after detailed discussions, earning residents’ appreciation. The Handewadi Housing Society Association, along with others on Handewadi Road, now eagerly looks forward to effective implementation. Residents are hopeful for a prompt and positive resolution that brings lasting relief to the community, added Ingale.

PMC’s Water Supply Department head, Nandkishor Jagtap, assured residents that complaints are being prioritized. “We are directing officers to address issues immediately and increase tanker supply. Long-term planning, including pipeline projects, is also underway to improve conditions,” he said.
