In the early hours of Tuesday, unidentified persons broke into the Banana Leaf Hotel in Kalyani Nagar and fled with ₹4 lakh cash. The incident has sparked concerns about security measures in hotels and restaurants, especially in busy areas.
According to a police complaint filed by the hotel manager, the suspect entered the premises through the back door. The entry was reportedly forceful. The cash counter was broken open using a sharp object, and the money was stolen. The theft took place during the late-night hours under unclear circumstances.
Police have started investigating the case and are examining CCTV footage from the hotel. Authorities are also following other leads to identify those involved. “We are actively pursuing all possible angles to catch the culprits,” said a police official.
The Yerwada police station has registered a case under sections 305 and 334 of the Indian Penal Code. No arrests have been made so far.
The incident has raised questions about security arrangements at establishments in high-traffic areas like Kalyani Nagar. Local residents highlighted the need for better security infrastructure.
Banana Leaf Hotel has declined to comment further on the matter, citing the ongoing investigation. Authorities are urging businesses to review their safety protocols and implement stronger measures to prevent such incidents.
As investigations continue, the police have appealed to the public to come forward with any information that could assist in solving the case. Meanwhile, the hotel staff and management are cooperating fully with the authorities to resolve the matter swiftly.
