On 21st March (Thursday), Rajya Sabha MP Vandana Chavan met the newly appointed Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) Commissioner Rajendra Bhosale & has brought to his notice the points of the proposed monorail project in Late Tatyasaheb Thorat Garden in Kothrud & River Front Development (RFD) projects.

As per further information from Vandana Chavan while addressing to PMC Commissioner Rajendra Bhosale,

“There are several issues which I would like to discuss. I wish to bring to your notice two important issues which need urgent attention and action.”

1) Installation of Monorail in the Thorat Udyan at Kothrud:

There is a move to install a Monorail in the Thorat Udyan at Kothrud which needs to be cancelled. Thorat Udyan is one of the oldest and biggest garden/ open public space in the Kothrud area which is a green lung for the area. Green spaces are becoming a scarce commodity and its serenity and greenery needs to be preserved – packing it with such projects would add to the congestion and lower the object of preserving the greens and the peace – not only are there several trees which will be cut but needless to say add to the noise and commotion in the area. The citizens have voiced their objection to the installation and hence their voice needs to be valued.

2) River Front Development:

Several experts, voluntary organizations and citizens from the city have been voicing their concern about the development being made on the River Front – some in total disregard to the norms set by the government itself. The courts have given stay on several occasions on various issues raised. If there could be a dialogue to iron out the concerns, it would help in smooth sailing of the RFD project. Request to kindly consider.
