Pune: The district collector of Raigad-Alibaug has issued an order to close the Varandha Ghat on the Bhor-Mahad road for heavy vehicle traffic due to the risk of landslides during the monsoon season. The road will remain closed from July 1 to September 30 as per the information.

This closure will impact the travellers using this route, as they will have to take a longer route via Tamhini Ghat to reach their destinations. The directive requires vehicle operators to comply with the order, and the Mahad Police have been instructed to enforce it.

Varandha Ghat experiences frequent landslides during the monsoon season, making it a challenging route that connects Vidharbha with the Konkan region in the state. However, with the road now closed for the next three months, heavy vehicle operators will need to travel via Tamhini Ghat in Pune, resulting in increased travel distances.

It is worth noting that the same closure was implemented during the previous monsoon season.
