Pune Voter Count Rises To 35.51 Lakh In Draft List
Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Thursday published its draft voter list for the upcoming civic elections, revealing that the city now has 35,51,469 registered voters.
The updated figures show a significant rise of nearly nine lakh voters compared to the 2017 polls, largely due to the addition of 34 merged villages into PMC limits.
Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram announced that the Sus–Baner–Pashan ward has emerged as the largest in the city with around 1.60 lakh voters, while Upper Indiranagar has the lowest count at 62,205 voters. Citizens can file objections to the draft rolls until November 27. However, the administration has clarified that mass or bulk objections will not be entertained. The civic elections are expected to take place in January 2026.
Ram stated that Pune currently has 41 wards, with four corporators to be elected from each ward, except for one which has five members. He added that complaints regarding duplicate entries have been received and the administration will verify and rectify such issues. The unusually high voter population in the Baner–Sus–Pashan ward has drawn attention, as its numbers approach those of a typical assembly constituency.
Soon after the list was made public, potential candidates started downloading ward-wise voter rolls to analyse demographic trends and prepare their campaign strategies.
Meanwhile, political reactions have begun surfacing. Prashant Jagtap, city president of the NCP (Sharad Pawar faction), alleged that political pressure influenced the preparation of the draft rolls. He claimed that names were added or removed to benefit certain wards and urged party workers to examine the lists thoroughly and submit objections wherever required.
