Pune: Wagholi Residents Demand Urgent Action On Severe Drainage And Sewage Issues
The residents of Wagholi, particularly those living in the Ivy Estate area, are facing severe drainage and sewage issues that have been plaguing them for years. Despite paying taxes and development charges for over a decade, the fundamental amenities such as proper roads, water supply, and drainage infrastructure remain sorely lacking.
The situation has become increasingly dire, with roads flooded with sewage and drainage water, creating unsanitary conditions and endangering public health. The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has issued notices to societies, but residents argue that this does not address the root cause of the problem – improper drainage infrastructure.

In a recent development, the PMC has allocated ₹12 crore for improving the sewage system in Wagholi, with the tender process currently underway ¹. However, residents are skeptical about the effectiveness of this initiative, given the corporation’s past track record.
Anil Kumar Mishra, President of the WACO Welfare Association, has urged the PMC to take immediate action to address the issue. “We demand proper inspection and assessment of the drainage system, immediate cleaning and maintenance of the sewage infrastructure, and long-term solutions to upgrade and expand the drainage system,” he said.
The residents of Wagholi are fed up with the lack of action from the authorities and are threatening to protest again if their demands are not met. “We have been patient for far too long, and it is time the PMC and our elected representatives took responsibility and delivered on the basic amenities we are entitled to,” Mishra added.
The situation in Wagholi highlights the need for greater accountability from local authorities in providing basic amenities to taxpayers. As the residents continue to suffer, it remains to be seen whether the PMC will take concrete steps to address the issue.
