For a few years now, the people living on Datta Mandir Road in Wakad have been asking for improvements in their area. They want better facilities, proper water supply, and a road without any illegal structures on it. Most importantly, they’ve been requesting a wider road, measuring 45 meters.

The residents have met with their local politicians and even the head of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation to discuss these issues. However, they haven’t received any positive responses so far.

Now, they’re continuing to reach out to the PCMC and their local MLA, Ashwini Laxman Jagtap, who has been supportive of their demands. But there’s a problem. Some housing societies in Wakad are objecting to the ongoing construction work on the road, and they’re getting support from the MLA of Chinchwad.

Recently, the MLA of Pimpri Chinchwad wrote a strong letter to the PCMC commissioner expressing their concerns about the road work. Here are some of the main issues raised:

  1. The quality of construction is poor.
  2. The work is taking too long to finish.
  3. The plans for the road are not being followed properly.
  4. The road width is inconsistent, being 24 meters at some points and 45 meters at others.
  5. There are delays in acquiring the necessary land for the wider road.
  6. There are illegal structures encroaching on the road.
  7. There’s a demand for an audit of the ongoing road work by Tata Consultancy or COEP to check its quality.
  8. Questions have been raised about the overall cost of the road project.
  9. The delays in the road work are causing traffic problems.
  10. Members of housing societies are worried about the impact of the road construction.

In her letter to the PCMC commissioner, Chinchwad constituency MLA Ashwini Laxman Jagtap had asked that the Datta Mandir road must be developed under the Urban Street Design. She stated that Datta Mandir road is a 45 meter road as per the DP Plan but as per the work being undertaken at the road, there seems to be many discrepancies. The incomplete work has led to severe traffic congestion causing severe inconvenience. According to the tender, even after 25 months of work order, the work is just 50 percent complete. At many places the road is 24 meter while at other spots it’s 45 meter. When it was clearly mentioned that the road must be developed Urban Street Design, why is it not being followed as per the plan. Also, I seek information on various open spaces which are in between this road, why is there delay in completing them ?

In summary, the residents of Datta Mandir Road are determined to see improvements in their area, but they’re facing obstacles in getting their demands met.

The residents previously held a meeting with the PCMC Commissioner Shekhar Singh. Details here.
